Q:  What do you paint them with?

A:  I don't!  My 'N'Toonz figures are crafted entirely from polymer clay.  I may occasionally use additional materials, such as wire reinforcements, but the detail you see on each face and outfit is entirely made of differently-colored clay.

What does that mean?  Among other things, it means that the brilliant colors you see will never fade or chip off!

Q: How do you fire them?

A:  All brands of polymer clay are designed to be hardened by baking at 275° F.  The length of time depends on how thick the clay is.  I normally use a toaster oven!

Q:  Are they very fragile?

A:  Any type of clay is fragile to a certain extent.  An advantage to polymer clay is that it breaks cleanly, with a minimum of chipping or shattering - making it easy to repair with a spot of super glue.  Most of the time, a piece can be repaired without leaving so much as a seam.

Q:  Do you use molds for any of your pieces?

A:  I do all of my pieces freehand.  It causes a bit of variety in size, true, but it also makes each figurine unique!  That's also why I initial and date each figurine.

Q:  How do I go about ordering an 'N'TOONZ figure?

A:  All I need from you is a photo of the person or persons you'd like me to depict, or a URL where I might find them depicted. If you want them in a specific outfit, like a team uniform or cosplay outfit, please specify that, too. One thing I do usually need, and that is the person's eye color - that's something that doesn't always come out clearly in a photograph. If you have a deadline, let me know. Otherwise, please reckon with about 4 - 6 weeks from commission to delivery.

Q:  I've heard that polymer clay is toxic.  Is that true?  A:  No, and yes.  Under normal circumstances, it's perfectly harmless.  There are things to be careful about, though.  When baking or sanding the clay, it's good to avoid breathing the fumes or the dust.  If it overheats,  it can give off toxic fumes.  And the manufacturers recommend not using it where it can come into prolonged contact with food (plates, or the inside of coffee mugs, etc.).

Q:  What if I wanted you to make my kids / in-laws / friend /  fiance / close relative / dog / co-worker / old army buddy / graduate / entire soccer team dressed as a (fill in the blank)?  Could you do it? A:  YES!  So who's it gonna be?  Just click here for my online request form, and let me know who you think oughtta be 'N'Toonz!
